[EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW] BAMBAM: 'One of the best compliments I received from my fans is how my music saved their lives' [ENG/ESP]

The multifaceted Thai artist BamBam, member of the worldwide known K-pop group GOT7, has begun a new adventure in his career as a solo artist with his first world tour [AREA 52].

Following the release of the artist's first full album 'Sour & Sweet', this tour allows the idol's fans to enjoy his music and artistry live in a way they haven't before.

Inspired by his love and interest in Area 51 and everything extraterrestrial related, the all rounder artist came up with the idea for his first solo world tour, creating a show full of good energy, focused on making the audience enjoy every minute of it. Undoubtedly, it will leave no one indifferent.

Inma Exma had the opportunity to talk with BamBam before the start of the European leg of his tour [AREA 52]. In an exclusive interview, the artist opens up about his personal AREA 52, his growth as an artist over the past 10 years, and how his first full-length album, world tour and relationship with his fans are shaping his journey.

Inma Exma: First of all, congratulations on your first solo world tour [AREA 52]! You explained that the name and concept behind the tour is related to AREA 51 and aliens, since it is a topic that you love, and you were born on May 2, hence, AREA 52. It is a space that you created for this tour to make your fans enjoy and feel safe and happy. Therefore, my question is, when things get tough for you, what place, space or person do you go to? What is your personal AREA 52 during hard times?

 

BamBam: My personal AREA 52 would be my family, especially my younger sister. Everytime I get the chance to visit Thailand, we always have a short and meaningful conversation about our respective personal lives and our careers. This interaction with her does not only deepen our bond, but provides me a sense of warmth.

 

 

Inma Exma: During a tour, how do you find balance between concerts, schedules and resting time to be able to stay in good shape mentally, physically and vocally?

 

BamBam: First of all, I enjoy doing this tour. I love and appreciate every moment from this tour, which is actually, the key in balancing all my time and physical and mental condition for the tour. In terms of maintaining good voice, it is kind of hard to have it in good condition due to the change in weather in each country so I try to drink water as much as possible.

Inma Exma: What do you think are the pros and cons of touring and performing with your group GOT7 vs touring as a solo artist?

 

BamBam: As a solo artist, I am given the freedom to explore and venture into different style of music and performances, which I enjoy a lot. Other than that, nothing is much different aside from the fact that I get lonely in a hotel room or while I get ready for a show.

Inma Exma: Your first full album 'Sour & Sweet' was released on March 28 last year, it is almost the 1 year anniversary so congratulations! What does this album mean to you and what kind of piece would you say that is in the puzzle of your discography and career as a solo artist?

 

BamBam:'Sour & Sweet' is an album about my personality and identity. Producing this album gave me an opportunity to know more about myself and allowed the audience to know more about me as well. My album 'Sour & Sweet' marks the beginning of my life story.

 

Inma Exma: The album starts with a song called 'Feather' and it closes with a song called 'Wings'. As someone who has been following you and supporting you since your debut in 2014, I have seen you grow and evolve and it has been so beautiful to see you become the artist and human being that you are today. If you look back now to that 16 year old BamBam who did not know what the future held for him, how would you describe that personal process of evolving from 'feather' to 'wings'? Is there something you wish you could have told your younger self at that time?

BamBam: To start off, I would like to express my gratitude for this question. Reflecting on my journey, there are so much things I would like to say to the 16 year old BamBam but let's start by saying 'BamBam, you will make it. You will go through highs and lows, sleepless nights, and encounter love and criticism, but through these experiences, your wings will get stronger than anyone else. So stay strong and trust yourself like you always do.'

Inma Exma: As an artist, what compliment do you like to receive the most about you and your music and artistry?

 

BamBam: One of the best compliments I received from my fans is how my music saved their lives. I am still not used to hearing this until today, but each time I encounter it, I am deeply moved. Knowing that my work has empowered my fans and provided strength during challenging times fills me with a profound sense of fulfilment and gratitude.

 

 

Inma Exma: If you had to describe your singing voice and rapping voice with a color or a word, what would it be and why?

 

BamBam: When characterizing my singing voice, I think of the word feather as it is soft and chill. Conversely, my rapping voice embodies the color red being sharp and strong. This diversity allows anyone to enjoy my music based on their preferred genre.

Inma Exma: IGOT7s are pretty good at creating memes and original fun stuff on social media as well as signs to bring during concerts. Is there a meme or a sign that you remember as it made an impact on you?

 

BamBam: It is so funny to see all kinds of memes uploaded on social media everyday. So it is hard for me to choose one, because I enjoy all of them.

 

 

Inma Exma: There are many idols who have been to your show Bam House and there are also many others that want to go, that shows how comfortable they feel around you and how safe the space that you created for the guests in your show is. Is there a question you have asked to one of your guests that you would have liked someone to ask you?

 

BamBam: Looking back, I think I have asked my guests if they are happy. It would be great if someone will ask me back if I was happy and I will appreciate it.

 

 

Inma Exma: To wrap up this interview, I would like to ask if there are any other European cities that you would like to visit on your next tour? Could you share some words to all your fans reading this interview?

 

BamBam: There are still so many cities in Europe that I really want to visit for my tour. I want to go to a place I've never been, so I would like to ask my fans to decide where I should go next!

To all my European fans, I would like to say thank you for showing your love, support and trust on my first world tour. Since it is my first time to do a tour, I see a lot of people are hesitant with what kind of show I am going to bring them but trust me and you will have the best show in your life with the brightest smile. Inma Exma: Primero que nada, ¡felicidades por tu primera gira mundial en solitario [AREA 52]! Explicaste que el nombre y el concepto detrás de la gira está relacionado con el AREA 51 y los extraterrestres, ya que es un tema que te encanta, y naciste el 2 de mayo, de ahí AREA 52. Es un espacio que creaste para esta gira con el objetivo de conseguir que fuese un espacio en el que tus fans disfruten y se sientan seguros y felices. Por eso mi pregunta es, cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles ¿a qué lugar, espacio o persona acudes? ¿Cuál es tu ÁREA 52 personal en tiempos difíciles?

 

BamBam: Mi AREA 52 personal sería mi familia, especialmente mi hermana menor. Cada vez que tengo la oportunidad de visitar Tailandia, siempre tenemos una conversación breve y significativa sobre nuestras respectivas vidas personales y carreras. Esta interacción con ella no sólo profundiza nuestro vínculo, sino que también me brinda una sensación de calidez.

 

Inma Exma: Durante una gira, ¿cómo encuentras el equilibrio entre conciertos, horarios y tiempo de descanso para poder mantenerte en buena forma mental, física y vocal?

 

BamBam: Primero que nada, disfruto haciendo esta gira. Amo y aprecio cada momento de esta gira, que en realidad es la clave para equilibrar todo mi tiempo y mi condición física y mental para la gira. En términos de mantener una buena voz, es un poco difícil tenerla en buenas condiciones debido al cambio de clima en cada país, así que trato de beber la mayor cantidad de agua posible.

Inma Exma: ¿Cuáles crees que son los pros y los contras de hacer una gira y actuar con tu grupo GOT7 versus hacer una gira como solista?

 

BamBam: Como solista, tengo la libertad de explorar y aventurarme en diferentes estilos de música y actuaciones, que disfruto mucho. Aparte de eso, nada es muy diferente aparte del hecho de que me siento solo en una habitación de hotel o mientras me preparo para un espectáculo.

Inma Exma: Tu primer álbum completo, 'Sour & Sweet', fue lanzado el 28 de marzo del año pasado, ya casi es el primer aniversario, ¡así que felicidades! ¿Qué significa este álbum para ti y qué tipo de pieza dirías que es en el puzzle de tu discografía y carrera como solista?

 

BamBam:'Sour & Sweet' es un álbum sobre mi personalidad e identidad. Producir este álbum me dio la oportunidad de saber más sobre mí y permitió que la audiencia también supiera más sobre mí. Mi álbum 'Sour & Sweet' marca el comienzo de la historia de mi vida.

 

Inma Exma: El álbum comienza con una canción llamada 'Feather' y cierra con una canción llamada 'Wings'. Como alguien que te ha seguido y apoyado desde tu debut en 2014, te he visto crecer y evolucionar y ha sido muy bonito verte convertirte en el artista y el ser humano que eres hoy. Si miras hacia atrás, a ese BamBam de 16 años que no sabía lo que le deparaba el futuro, ¿cómo describirías ese proceso personal de evolución de "feather" a "wings"? ¿Hay algo que desearías haberle dicho a tu yo más joven en ese momento?

BamBam: Para empezar, me gustaría expresar mi agradecimiento por esta pregunta. Reflexionando sobre mi viaje, hay muchas cosas que me gustaría decirle al BamBam de 16 años, pero comencemos diciendo: 'BamBam, lo lograrás, pasarás por altibajos, noches de insomnio y encontrarás amor y críticas, pero a través de estas experiencias, tus alas se volverán más fuertes que las de cualquier otra persona. Así que mantente fuerte y confía en ti mismo como siempre haces.'

Inma Exma: Como artista, ¿qué elogio te gusta más recibir sobre ti y tu música y tu arte?

 

BamBam: Uno de los mejores elogios que recibí de mis fans es cómo mi música les salvó la vida. Hasta hoy, todavía no estoy acostumbrado a escuchar esto, pero cada vez que me encuentro con esta situación, me conmueve profundamente. Saber que mi trabajo ha empoderado a mis fans y les ha brindado fuerza durante tiempos difíciles me llena de una profunda sensación de satisfacción y gratitud.

 

 

Inma Exma: Si tuvieras que describir tu voz al cantar y tu voz al rapear con un color o una palabra, ¿cuál sería y por qué?

 

BamBam: Al caracterizar mi voz al cantar, pienso en la palabra pluma porque es suave y tranquila. Por el contrario, mi voz rapeando encarna el color rojo siendo nítido y fuerte. Esta diversidad permite que cualquiera disfrute de mi música según su género preferido.

Inma Exma: IGOT7s son buenos creando memes y cosas originales y divertidas en las redes sociales, así como carteles para llevar durante los conciertos. ¿Hay algún meme o algún cartel que recuerdes porque te impactara?

 

BamBam: Es muy divertido ver todo tipo de memes subidos a las redes sociales todos los días. Entonces me resulta difícil elegir uno, porque los disfruto todos.

 

 

Inma Exma: Hay muchos idols que han estado en tu programa Bam House y también hay muchos otros que quieren ir, eso demuestra lo cómodos que se sienten contigo y lo seguro que es el espacio que creaste para los invitados a tu programa. ¿Hay alguna pregunta que le hayas hecho a alguno de tus invitados que te hubiera gustado que alguien te la hiciera?

 

BamBam: Mirando hacia atrás, creo que les he preguntado a mis invitados si son felices. Sería genial si alguien me preguntara si estoy feliz y se lo agradecería.

 

 

Inma Exma: Para concluir esta entrevista, me gustaría preguntarte si hay otras ciudades europeas que te gustaría visitar en tu próxima gira. ¿Podrías compartir algunas palabras con todos tus fans que lean esta entrevista?

 

BamBam: Todavía hay tantas ciudades en Europa que realmente quiero visitar durante mi gira. ¡Quiero ir a un lugar en el que nunca he estado, así que me gustaría pedirles a mis fans que decidan dónde debo ir a continuación!
